Macy Gray is known for her distinctive raspy voice and a singing style influenced by Billie Holiday and Betty Davis.  She started out writing songs to be recorded by another vocalist but when they failed to show up Macy recorded them herself.  She now has seven albums to her credit.

With her recent death Amy Winehouse has left a soulful legacy behind that not many have begun to fully appreciate yet. And only 27, what a shame.
